Reedsport Fairways Foundation
The Reedsport Fairways Foundation is a public charity by a group of committed volunteers. Our mission is to raise funds to restore the aged irrigation system of the Reedsport Golf Course and to offer scholarships for local youth development.
The Reedsport Fairways Foundation's 501(c)(3) status confirmed. We have received our exempt status. Donations received may be treated as tax-deductible contributions retroactive to the date of our organization's formation.
History of our course
The original course opened May 1, 1965 by International Paper. The course was built with the help of local Company Umpqua Navigation and designed by John Shafer with help of the Engineering department at International Paper. Long time member Bill Hardy was responsible for surveying the area and naming the subdivision and golf course "Forest Hills". International Paper leased the course to the Forest Hills Country Club Association for a nominal sum until 1988 when the Association purchased the course and facilities for $350K.
FHCC Association established itself as a not-for-profit organization and continued to operate as a semi-private golf club. In 1999 International Paper closed their paper mill in Gardiner Since then, the golf course has been impacted by the loss of jobs and a general decline of the Reedsport area.
Due to the increasing irrigation system deterioration, an ad-hoc committee was developed in September of 2021 to indentify the extent of the failures and possible solutions. The FHCC Board of Directors approved an expenditure of $10K in November 2021 for a new irrigation system design by Troy Mears Design Group.
Also, along with the design, the contractor James Milroy of Milroy Golf Systems, Inc. reviewed the design and submitted a preliminary project plan in March 2022. The projected construction costs are over one million dollars and a 6-8 week construction timeline. In September 2022 the FHCC Board of Directors formerly changed the name of their operating golf course from Forest Hills Country Club to Reedsport Golf Course. The change allows a better job of achieving awareness of, and promoting, the location of the couse and that the course is a recreational asset to everyone within Reedsport and surrounding area as well as to dispel the "Country Club" stigma.
